Chairman ZHANG Yi Attends 2016 Songshan Forum

From October 28th to 29th, 2016, Chairman ZHANG Yi was invited to attend 2016 Songshan Forum. At the closing ceremony of October 29th, Mr. ZHANG Yi delivered the keynote speech concerning China-EU Municipal Development Cooperation, and explicated the motivation for the establishment of China-EU Municipal Development Forum in the near future.

2016 Songshan Forum is hosted by China International Culture Exchange Center, Chinese Society of Cultural Relics, Institute for Advanced Humanistic Studies at Peking University, and Henan Foundation for the Inheritance and Innovation of Chinese History and Civilization with Henan Konita Group, and Secretariat of Songshan Forum as the Organizers. The Theme of 2016 Songshan Forum is “Transformation and Innovation: Toward a Dialogical Civilization”. Mr. ZHANG Baowen, Vice Chairman of the 12th Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress, and Mr. Yukio HATOYAMA, Former Prime Minister of Japan attended 2016 Songshan Forum. In 2015, Mr. ZHANG Yi was invited to attend Songshan Forum for the first time, and headed the Delegation of Cosenza Provincial Government of Italy to attend the sub-forums as the co-organizers.
At the closing ceremony, Mr. ZHANG Yi was invited to deliver the keynote speech. He expounded his viewpoint as for the creative cooperation concerning China-EU municipal development. He remarked, there existed a long history of people-to-people communication between Chinese and European civilizations. EU-China Municipal Development Commission was not only born out of the cooperation between China and Europe, but also had become the organizer of cultural exchange, economic cooperation, sci-tech innovation cooperation between China and Europe.
Mr. ZHANG Yi said, in the near future, ECMDC would found China-EU Municipal Development Forum, whose definite mission was to facilitate China-EU municipal development cooperation. The Forum would be open to Chinese and European municipal administrators, urban builders, experts and scholars, who would discuss “hot” topics together in order to tackle those challenges and difficulties they were facing, and create the platform for the in-depth cooperation concerning China-EU municipal development on equal footing. This high-level forum would seek the down-to-earth solution plan or action plan as for China-EU municipal development cooperation with a view to enhancing the synergy between Chinese and European partners in the process of implementing “One Belt One Road” Initiative.
Mr. ZHANG Yi remarked, ECMDC would actively play its role as the unique platform between China and Europe, and develop from strength to strength during the process of serving Henan Province, serving China, and serving China-EU exchange and cooperation. China-EU Municipal Development Forum would surely present a unique perspective to those municipal administrators, urban builders of Henan Province and the rest of China, and create a good platform for those who wanted to participate in China-EU urbanization cooperation.

During the process of 2016 Songshan Forum, Mr. ZHANG Yi reported the preparatory work of China-EU Municipal Development Forum to Mr. ZHANG Guangzhi, Vice Governor of Henan Provincial Government. He introduced that ECMDC had contacted the concerned authorities of EU and mayors of EU Member States, who had indicated their strong support to the proposal of the Forum. ECMDC had the confidence in the effort of gradually turning the Forum to be the important platform for the people-to-people communication between China and EU. Mr. ZHANG Guangzhi appreciated the progress ECMDC had made, and believed that the Forum would provide a chance for municipal administrators, urban builders of Henan Province and other regions to participate in the Sino-European urbanization cooperation. Mr. ZHANG Yi said, ECMDC would further the related preparatory work in order to ensure that the first China-EU Municipal Development Forum be with the high-level political significance and the down-to-earth sustainable practicality. ECMDC would introduce those tangible projects and solution plans to the host city, which would boost the sustainable development of the concerned region.
