Chairman ZHANG Yi Meets with Dr. David Baghurst from Oxford University Innovation

On October 16th, 2016, Chairman ZHANG Yi met with Dr. David Baghurst, Managing Director of Oxford University Innovation (Hong Kong) Limited. Both of them exchanged their views as for the sci-tech innovation cooperation between China and Europe, and reached the related consensus.

Mr. ZHANG Yi extended his welcome to the distinguished guest from afar, and introduced the current work ECMDC was conducting and the related achievements in the efforts of promoting Sino-European sci-tech innovation cooperation. He remarked, the Chinese government was actively advocating the policy of “Mass Innovation, Mass Entrepreneurship”, the integration between the advanced European technologies and the vast Chinese market would not only bring forth the win-win among the concerned parties, but also become the best method of strengthening the mutual trust and understanding between Chinese and European people. Therefore, ECMDC had reached the consensus of cooperation with many Chinese cities with a view to providing the cooperation platform for Chinese and European youths through the joint construction of China-Europe Youth Innovation and Entrepreneurship Demonstration Zone.

 

Dr. David Baghurst introduced Oxford University Innovation (Hong Kong) Limited as well. Oxford University Innovation is the one and only technology transfer department of Oxford University, whose mission is to commercialize, or incubate the advanced technologies developed by Oxford University. Nowadays, the business scope of Oxford University Innovation has expanded, and introduced the advanced technologies as the solutions from other universities and countries to the end users around the world. Oxford University Innovation has had many successful cases in China.

 

Mr. ZHANG Yi congratulated Dr. David Baghurst on the achievements Oxford University Innovation had made. He said, in the Age of Internet, how to provide the tailor-made services or products to the customers, or the end users had become the direction of the future combination between technology and market. Because of this fact, many international companies and organizations had set up their own R & D centers in China in order to develop the products that matched the actual demands of Chinese market. Henceforth, ECMDC was quite willing to carry out the in-depth cooperation with Oxford University Innovation, and introduce the advanced technologies of Oxford University into Chinese market through the projects including UNESCO-China Sci-Tech Innovation and Education Center, China-Europe Youth Innovation and Entrepreneurship Demonstration Zone that ECMDC had been working on.

 

Dr. David Baghurst said, Oxford University Innovation recognized the value of vast market in China, and the ensuing commercial opportunities. To select the high-quality partners, to provide the sci-tech innovation solutions to more and more Chinese customers were the necessity out of the development of Oxford University Innovation, which was also in the Oxford University’s spirit of serving society through knowledge. He indicated his willingness of forging the tight synergy with ECMDC, and formulated the definite road map in accordance with the division of labor between two parties.

 

At the end of the meeting, Mr. ZHANG Yi and Dr. David Baghurst had reached the consensus: both parties would become the strategic partners; ECMDC would select cities and regions in China as the cooperation platform, while Oxford University Innovation would provide the technical solution to these cities, or the end customers in line with their actual demands; ECMDC and Oxford University Innovation were determined to realize win-win through the promising joint efforts.
