Chairman ZHANG Yi Meets with Mr. Hans d’Orville

On February 19th, 2017, Chairman ZHANG Yi met with Mr. Hans d’Orville, Special Advisor to the Director-General of UNESCO, former Assistant Director-General for Strategic Planning of UNESCO and his wife, Ms. Mehri Madarshahi who were invited to visit Beijing. Both parties had exchanged their views to the full as for the issues with the shared interests.

Mr. Hans d’Orville, German, Ph.D of University of Konstanz worked at UN Secretariat and UNDP since 1975. In 2000, he worked at UNESCO and assumed the post of Assistant Director-General for Strategic Planning. In 2015, he was appointed as Special Advisor to the Director-General of UNESCO upon his retirement.

 

Ms. Mehri Madarshahi, Canadian had worked at the HQ of UN for 26 years and assumed many important posts. In 2005, she founded Melody for Dialogue among Civilizations Association, and is the President ever since then.

 

Mr. ZHANG Yi introduced the current work of ECMDC to Mr. Hans d’Orville and Ms. Mehri Madarshahi. He remarked, the focus of ECMDC was on two aspects, namely, STEAM education and cultural exchange. ECMDC and the Chinese Society of Education have jointly formulated the action plan of furthering STEAM education cooperation between China and international organizations, EU Member States. Mr. Hans d’Orville and Ms. Mehri Madarshahi offered their suggestions from the professional perspective, and indicated their willingness of substantially promoting Sino-European people-to-people communication through the concrete projects of STEAM education and cultural exchange. On the basis of the full communication, both parties had reached the consensus in various aspects.
