On the morning of March 15^th, 2017, Chairman ZHANG Yi was invited to attend the Seminar concerning the Construction of Intellectual Property Demonstration Zone, which was held by Economic, Scientific and Technological Commission of Beijing Chaoyang District People’s Political Consultative Conference. Mr. WANG Wenyuan, Vice Chairman of Beijing Chaoyang District Committee of People’s Political Consultative Conference attended the Seminar. Mr. FENG Shouhua, Director General of Intellectual Property Office of Beijing Chaoyang District and other 15 committee members from different sectors of law, finance, industries, academics, education and technologies exchanged their incisive views as for the issue of constructing Intellectual Property Demonstration Zone.

Chaoyang District is one of the key urban districts of Beijing City with the most powerful economic strength. Chaoyang District attaches the importance to IP promotion and protection. While promulgating the related rules and regulations, policies, Chaoyang District is seeking the innovative methods of enhancing the consciousness of IP protection. After years of dedicated efforts, in April 2015, the State Intellectual Property Office of China conferred to Chaoyang District the honorary title “National Intellectual Property Demonstration City”. In order to construct intellectual property demonstration zone in an efficient way, Chaoyang District held the special seminar and invite the committee members to jointly discuss the creative development.

Mr. ZHANG Yi delivered the opening speech at the Seminar. He made the detailed presentation of ECMDC’s efforts in the field of intellectual property. In 2015, Mr. ZHANG Yi visited the HQ of OAMI (the predecessor of EU Intellectual Property Office) in Alicante, Spain. He exchanged his views with the concerned officials as for the effort of IP promotion and protection. Mr. ZHANG Yi also explored the potential cooperation with Mr. Christophe Gimenez, the then IP Attache of OAMI in Beijing. Henceforth, ECMDC has its own views and concrete proposals as for Sino-European IP protection.

Mr. ZHANG Yi remarked, on the basis of previous work, ECMDC feels it necessary to mobilize all the social resources to promote IP protection and create the related cooperation between China and Europe. He said, in the age of globalization, the value of IP is becoming more and more prominent, while the related protection measures shall be taken in tune with the times. In the meanwhile, it will be significant to create the industrial chain and ecological zone that integrates training, financing and trading into one entity with IP protection as the center. Since Europe takes the lead in IP protection, ECMDC stands ready to provide the special services for the IP protection in Chaoyang District, Beijing City, and even the whole China.

Mr. ZHANG Yi’s words had received the positive feedbacks. The attendees vied with each with in airing his willingness of participating in IP protection and jointly furthering the construction of intellectual property demonstration zone of Chaoyang District on the basis of the full discussion and the ensuing action plan.
