China-Pakistan Animal Husbandry Cooperation within the Framework of the Belt and Road Initiative

From August 7^th to 8^th, 2017, Chairman ZHANG Yi headed the Delegation to visit Shandong Vocational Animal Science and Veterinary College (SVASVC) in Weifang City in order to discuss the issues of implementing China-Pakistan animal husbandry cooperation within the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative, and constructing Animal Husbandry Base within China-Pakistan Industrial Park. With the coordination of ECMDC, the Delegation of the University of Agriculture, Faisalabad (UAF) comprised of Professor Ahrar Khan, Dean of Faculty of Veterinary Science, Professor Muhammad Sajjad Khan, Dean of Faculty of Animal Husbandry, Professor Zafar Iqbal Qureshi, Chairman of Department of Theriogenology, Faculty of Veterinary Science and Professor Muhammad Aslam, Director of Institute of Animal and Diary Sciences came to visit SVASVC, and met with Mr. ZHENG Lisen, President of SVASVC, Mr. ZHANG Shaoqiu, Vice President of SVASVC and Mr. ZHOU Qihu, Vice President of SVASVC. SVASVC and UAF held the in-depth discussion in the aspects of China-Pakistan intercollegiate cooperation on research and talent cultivation, and reached the consensus of cooperation. Mr. HU Zhenming, Deputy Secretary General of ECMDC, Mr. WANG Xiaowen, Deputy Director of the International Cooperation Department of the Chinese Society of Vocational and Technical Education, Mr. SHANG Zhiping, Managing Vice President Shandong Society of Vocational and Technical Education, and Mr. ZHANG Facheng, Director of the International Cooperation Committee of Shandong Society of Vocational and Technical Education attended the meeting as well.

The University of Agriculture, Faisalabad (UAF) was established by upgrading the former Punjab Agricultural College and Research Institute (founded in 1906) in 1961. UAF is a globally renowned university, and ranked 4^th in Pakistan and 1^st in the field of Agriculture and Veterinary Sciences by HEC University Ranking 2015. It also ranked among top 800 world universities by QS World University Rankings 2014. UAF comes among top 5 institutions of Pakistan in terms of research power. The delegates of UAF to visit SVASVC are not only the famous scholars in Pakistan, but also the important administrators of UAF.

At the Meeting

At the meeting on the morning of August 8^th, Mr. ZHENG Lisen, President of SVASVC extended his warm welcome to Mr. ZHANG Yi and Pakistani friends. He remarked, he headed the delegation to visit ECMDC Beijing Liaison Office on May 5^th and discussed the issue of promoting China-Pakistan intercollegiate cooperation on veterinary and animal sciences. SVASVC and ECMDC reach the consensus of cooperation. Afterwards, with the active coordination of ECMDC, the Delegation of UAF comes to visit SVASVC, which provides the chance for SVASVC and UAF to have the face-to-face discussion on the intercollegiate cooperation on research, talent cultivation and animal husbandry. Therefore, Mr. ZHENG Lisen expressed his heartfelt gratitude to Mr. ZHANG Yi’s full support for the international cooperation of SVASVC. Mr. ZHENG indicated that SVASVC would actively participate in the construction of China-Pakistan Industrial Park, and make its own contribution to China-Pakistan cooperation within the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative.

Mr. ZHANG Yi expressed his thanks to the warm reception of SVASVC. He said, ECMDC is actively engaged in the Belt and Road construction, and coordinates the concerned authorities to promote the construction of China-Pakistan Industrial Park. During this process, ECMDC is very glad to know that SVASVC and UAF intend to undertake the intercollegiate cooperation. Henceforth, ECMDC plays its role as a bridge to the full and undertakes the preparatory work, which finally facilitates the visiting of the Delegation of UAF in due time. ECMDC expects SVASVC and UAF to reach the consensus of cooperation in the aspects of research, talent cultivation and industrial cooperation, which aims to strengthen Sino-Pakistani friendship and enhance social welfare of two countries through the concrete cooperation projects.

Mr. Ahrar Khan expressed his gratitude to Mr. ZHANG Yi and the preparatory work undertaken by ECMDC. He also expressed his thanks to Mr. ZHENG Lisen for the warm reception of SVASVC. He said, at the warm invitation of Chinese friends, he and his colleagues are very happy to have a chance to visit SVASVC to discuss the cooperation with mutual benefits in multiple aspects. He remarked, UAF is the famous agricultural university in Pakistan and the world. UAF boasts of the high-level competences of research and talent cultivation, and is dedicated to the cause of enhancing the social welfare through the actual application of the scientific knowledge. The purpose of visiting SVASVC is to discuss how to begin with the intercollegiate concrete projects and learn from each other, and how to make contribution to the development of the animal husbandry.

Afterwards, Mr. ZHANG Lisen, Mr. ZHANG Shaoqiu and Mr. Ahrar Khan, Mr. Muhammad Sajjad Khan, Mr. Zafar Iqbal Qureshi, Mr. Muhammad Aslam made the introduction to SVASVC and UAF respectively, and held the full discussion as for the future cooperation. In the warm and hearty communication, SVASVC and UAF reach the consensus of cooperation. Since SVASVC and UAF share the same academic disciplines, talent cultivation modes and the same mission of serving society, two universities would like to implement the intercollegiate cooperation on the exchange of faculties, students and research. SVASVC and UAF also hold the evaluation concerning China-Pakistan donkey industry cooperation. In China, there is a strong demand for donkey industry products and the future of donkey industry is very promising. In Pakistan, there are abundant chances for the development of donkey industry. SVASVC and UAF believe that it is necessary to jointly explore avenues of cooperation and find the ideal method of promoting the donkey industry in Pakistan through the concrete projects of research and talent cultivation.

Mr. SHANG Zhiping, Managing Vice President Shandong Society of Vocational and Technical Education congratulated on the consensus of cooperation between SVASVC and UAF. He said, Shandong Society of Vocational and Technical Education will give the full support to the intercollegiate cooperation with mutual benefits, and will mobilize its own resources to jointly participate in China-Pakistan cooperation on animal husbandry in order to promote the Belt and Road vocational education cooperation. Mr. ZHANG Facheng, Director of the International Cooperation Committee of Shandong Society of Vocational and Technical Education also aired their opinions at the meeting and sent their best wishes to the success of cooperation between SVASVC and UAF.
